Main session of Jamaat rally begins
The main ceremony of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s national rally has begun at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, focusing on seven key demands. The event is being presided over by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
The ceremony began at 2.00pm on Saturday (July 19) with the recitation of the Holy Quran. However, since 10.00am, leaders from the district and Dhaka city levels have been arriving and giving speeches. Cultural programs have also been taking place intermittently.
Reports suggest that leaders from various political parties are also taking part in Jamaat’s event.
Jamaat’s seven demands include ensuring a level playing field for free, fair, neutral, and peaceful elections; delivering justice for all acts of genocide; carrying out essential structural reforms; implementing the July Charter and its declaration; rehabilitating the families of those killed or injured in the July uprising; holding national elections under a proportional representation (PR) system; and securing voting rights for more than 10 million overseas voters.
