Major changes coming to textbooks next year: Adviser Asif
Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, has said that textbooks will undergo major changes starting next year. He said, “The new textbooks will feature the history of the July uprising and details of the last four national elections.”
He announced this on Thursday afternoon (August 21) through a post on his verified Facebook page.
In his post, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan wrote, “To pass the history of the 2024 July uprising and the story of our people’s fight against autocracy from one generation to the next, significant changes are coming to the textbooks. Particular focus will be on including the history of the July–August 2024 uprising and information about the last four national elections.”
He also shared a photo card on Facebook featuring a picture of the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claiming that her name will be listed as a perpetrator of genocide in textbooks across various grades.
In August last year, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, textbooks underwent major revisions. The 2025 editions added graffiti of the July uprising and removed quotes that featured Sheikh Hasina’s picture on the covers.
