Major cyber attacks may occur before election: Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Posts and Telecommunications, has said that major cyber attacks may take place before the election.
He expressed this concern on Tuesday (August 19) while speaking at a seminar on cybersecurity for financial institutions held at a hotel in Dhaka.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said, “There is a risk of major cyber attacks on the country’s financial sector and other areas before the election.” He called on everyone to rethink cybersecurity in this situation.
Earlier, in July, the central bank issued a warning over possible cyber attacks targeting banks, financial institutions, and digital payment service providers.
In a letter from Bangladesh Bank’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department, it was stated that in the coming days, critical information infrastructure (CII), banks, the financial sector, healthcare, and both government and private organizations may face the risk of cyber attacks. The warning was based on information from various sources.
The letter also instructed banks, financial institutions, and payment service providers to immediately strengthen cybersecurity measures to prevent small and medium-level cyber attacks.
