Major earthquake jolts parts of Bangladesh
A 7.1 magnitude earthquake jolted Dhaka and other parts of the country on Tuesday (December 7).
The earthquake was felt at 7:05 am (Bangladesh time) and the epicentre of the earthquake was in China, 618km north-west of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Seismic Centre at Agargaon in Dhaka, according to BMD.
Confirming this information, Farzana Sultana, assistant meteorologist at the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre of the BMD, said, "Today (Tuesday) at 7:05:16 am, an earthquake was felt in various parts of the country, including Dhaka. It is a major category earthquake."
She further said, "Its origin was in a place in China, 618 kilometers northwest of Dhaka. Due to its impact, tremors were felt in some parts of the country, including Dhaka."
