Maldives keen to recruit Bangladeshi workers for healthcare sector

Maldives has expressed interest in recruiting workers from Bangladesh for its healthcare sector. Maldivian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rashid conveyed the interest during a courtesy meeting with Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, April 1.

During the meeting, the high commissioner congratulated the state minister on assuming office and highlighted Maldives' interest in hiring Bangladeshi workers for the health sector.

Both sides emphasised strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors including trade, health, education and connectivity. The state minister welcomed the exchange of business delegations between the two countries and the resumption of direct Male-Dhaka flights by the national airline of Maldives.

The high commissioner commended the contribution of Bangladeshi migrant workers to Maldives' socio-economic development. The state minister expressed gratitude to the Maldivian government for creating employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers and requested consideration for recruitment of more skilled and semi-skilled workers.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the state minister appreciated Maldives' support on the Rohingya issue and Bangladesh's commitment to revitalising SAARC. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening regional cooperation.
