Mamunul Haque served show-cause notice over poll code violation
The Election Commission (EC) has issued a show-cause notice to Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis–nominated candidate for Dhaka-13, Md Mamunul Haque, over alleged violations of the electoral code of conduct ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections.
According to the notice, Mamunul Haque distributed campaign leaflets among the public in front of the Election Commission building at around 5:00pm on January 13, accompanied by his supporters.
The EC said the activity constitutes electioneering conducted three weeks before the officially designated campaign period, ahead of the February 12 polling date.
Such actions, it noted, violate Rules 3 and 18 of the Political Parties and Candidates’ Code of Conduct for Parliamentary Elections, 2025.
The commission has directed Mamunul Haque to explain why legal action should not be taken against him for breaching the code. He has been asked to submit a written reply in person or through a representative by 5:00pm on January 17.
