Man accused of harassing woman on bus arrested

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man accused of harassing a woman inside a bus at the Basila Bus Stand area in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

The arrestee, identified as Mohammad Nizam Uddin, 45, is a tenant in the Ati Bazar area of Keraniganj. He was detained from Mohammadpur on Thursday.

On Tuesday afternoon, Nizam allegedly harassed a woman and made indecent remarks about her clothing inside a Ramzan Paribahan bus near Basila Bus Stand. A video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage and criticism of law enforcement for not taking immediate action.

In response, a team from RAB-4’s headquarters unit conducted a drive and arrested Nizam Uddin. A mobile phone was also seized from his possession.

RAB said the arrest was made swiftly to prevent any unrest or instability over the widely discussed incident on social media. After his detention, Nizam Uddin was handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station, and further legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.
