Man arrested for raping mentally challenged woman in Faridpur

A young man was arrested after allegedly raping a 21-year-old mentally challenged woman at his home in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur.

The accused, identified as Faizullah, 39, a resident of the same upazila and father of three, is alleged to have lured the victim to his home Friday morning under the pretext of feeding her mangoes, according to the victim's family and local sources.

The woman was assaulted on the premises. Relatives, alerted by her screams, rushed to the spot and managed to rescue her. Local residents subsequently detained Faizullah and handed him over to law enforcement authorities.

The victim's aunt filed a formal complaint Friday night at Boalmari Police Station under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act, naming Faizullah as the accused.

Confirming the matter, Boalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain said the victim was receiving medical and legal assistance. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.

Faizullah was produced before court Saturday morning, the OC added.
