Man beaten to death in Chattogram on Eid day over alleged drug-related dispute
A man was allegedly beaten to death in Satkania upazila of Chattogram over a longstanding dispute linked to drugs, police and local sources said on Eid day (May 28).
The victim, identified as Selim, 45, was attacked in the Charoti Union area of Bangla Bazar around 6:00pm on Thursday evening.
According to the case statement, the victim was the son of Abul Khair and had been involved in a prolonged dispute with the accused group.
A case has been filed naming 30 individuals and accusing 150–200 unidentified people. Police have arrested one suspect, Mohammad Ismail alias Imon, 28, in connection with the incident.
The complaint states that a group armed with sticks, iron rods and local weapons intercepted Selim, forced him off his motorcycle and brutally assaulted him. He was later dragged into a nearby house and allegedly beaten again while being stripped, causing severe injuries.
Local sources said the attackers initially tried to portray the incident as a mob beating after the victim was caught in theft, but later reports indicated that the killing stemmed from a drug-related feud.
Police later rescued the injured man and took him to Satkania Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Satkania Circle) Mohammad Ariful Islam Siddique confirmed that the victim’s father filed a murder case. He said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.
