A 38-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death inside a tea garden in Jaflong, under Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.

The deceased, identified as Imam Uddin, was a resident of Medi village and the son of Hormuz Ali.

According to police and local sources, Imam was detained and assaulted on Monday night by several individuals inside a room within the tea garden. His bloodied body was recovered by police around 3 PM on Tuesday.

Following the incident, law enforcement arrested three individuals in connection with the case: Kapil Uddin Liton, assistant manager of the tea garden, and two staff members, Niranjan Goala and Akkel Prodhan.

Locals reported that around 3 AM on Monday night, Imam was confined and brutally beaten. News of the incident spread by morning, prompting hundreds of villagers, including the victim’s relatives, to gather at the tea garden.

When police arrived to retrieve the body, the crowd initially obstructed the recovery effort, demanding that the perpetrators be arrested immediately. The three suspects were subsequently detained at the scene.

Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Mohammad Tofayel Ahmed stated that the motive behind the killing is still under investigation. "Some say Imam was beaten on suspicion of theft, while others believe a personal dispute involving a woman may be behind the incident," he said.

The body showed multiple injury marks, including severe head trauma. As of filing this report, no case had yet been registered.
