Man beaten to death over theft suspicion in Bogura
A person was beaten to death on suspicion of being a thief in Shibganj upazila of Bogura.
The incident took place in Chatua Matalpara village of Majhihatta union of Shibganj on Friday morning (May 8).
The deceased has been identified as Selim Mia. Selim, 40, was a resident of Pilkhanj village of Kahalu upazila of Bogura.
Locals alleged that the deceased was a thief. Early this morning, some people entered the house of Gopal Chandra of the village by cutting down the mud wall with the intention of stealing. The family members started shouting when they realized that the thieves had entered. The thieves tried to escape. By then, the locals came out and caught Selim and started beating him. At one point, Selim died. Later, the police recovered his body and sent it to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Shibganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahinuzzaman said that no party has filed a complaint with the police station so far. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
