Man crushed to death between two buses in Chankharpul
A 40-year-old pharmaceutical company employee was tragically killed after being crushed between two competing buses in the capital’s Chankharpul area on Wednesday afternoon. Following the incident, agitated locals managed to detain both vehicles involved in the accident.
The deceased was identified as Joydeb, a native of Barishal, who resided in the Jatrabari area of Dhaka and worked in the distribution department of Royal Laboratories.
The tragic accident took place around 4pm on the road between the new building of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Chankharpul. According to eyewitnesses and local sources, Joydeb was attempting to board a Narayanaganj-bound bus when a speeding bus operated by 'Thikana Paribahan' tried to overtake from behind. Joydeb was caught in the middle and severely crushed between the two vehicles, sustaining critical injuries.
Pedestrians immediately rescued him from the scene and rushed him to the Emergency Department of DMCH in a critical condition. However, following a swift medical examination, the attending doctors declared him dead around 4:30pm.
Mizanur Rahman, a co-worker of the deceased, stated that they had been working together in the Shahbagh area since morning. Joydeb was on his way back to his Jatrabari residence when the accident occurred. Mizanur rushed to the hospital upon receiving a phone call, only to find his colleague's lifeless body.
Inspector Md. Faruk, the in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed the fatality, stating that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy. He added that the Shahbagh Police Station has been officially notified to initiate a thorough investigation into the incident.
