An unidentified man died after being hit by a train in the capital's Karwan Bazar area late Thursday night (September 3).

The man, believed to be around 55, was critically injured after being struck by the train at about 11:30pm.

He was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 1am while he was undergoing treatment.

Mohammad Faruk, inspector-in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, confirmed the death.

He said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy and the incident had been reported to the railway police. The victim’s identity has yet to be established.

The Criminal Investigation Department’s crime scene team has also been notified, while legal procedures are underway, Faruk said.

Qader, a raw-material trader in Karwan Bazar who helped take the injured man to hospital, said the victim was seriously injured after being hit by a moving train while crossing the railway tracks behind the market.
