An elderly individual has reportedly died during a police chase near Aganagar Southpara Government Primary School polling center in Kishoreganj's  Bhairab Upazila on Thursday morning (February 12).

The deceased has been identified as Razzak Mia, 55, son of Alal Uddin Mia of the upazila.

According to eyewitnesses, law enforcement personnel arrived near the center around 11:30am and attempted to disperse people gathered outside. Razzak Mia ran to avoid the officers and suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

The Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Kishore Kumar Dhar, said there were no visible signs of injury, and preliminary reports suggest a heart attack. However, family members alleged that the police pursuit triggered the incident.

Local residents gathered at the scene, and the deceased’s son, Mortuja Ali, claimed his father collapsed while fleeing law enforcement.

Election officials emphasised that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

However, attempts to obtain comments from the assistant returning officer and Bhairab Upazila Executive Officer K M Mamunur Rashid were unsuccessful.
