Man dies in explosion while trying to make octane watching YouTube

A businessman has died four days after being burned in an explosion while trying to make octane using an alternative method by watching YouTube videos in Sonagazi, Feni.

Nur Alam Masud, 45, the owner of Sotota Oil Mills, died while undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 8:00 am on Saturday, April 18.

He was a resident of Sadar union in Sonagazi upazila, Feni.

According to local sources, on Tuesday afternoon, April 14, in the Nazrul Primary area of the municipality, a pipe exploded when the temperature became uncontrollable while attempting to make octane by an alternative method. Nur Alam Masud and his colleague Md Omar Faruk were severely burned.

Locals rescued them and took them first to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex, then to Feni Sadar Hospital, and later transferred them to Dhaka. Masud died after four days of treatment there.

Sonagazi Model Police Station OC (Investigation) Shafiqur Rahman said police visited the scene after the explosion and will take legal action regarding the death.
