Man found hanging after Facebook post about death due to woman
Police have recovered the hanging body of a young man named Neerab Emon in Pomra union of Rangunia upazila in Chattogram. Hours before his death, he had posted an emotional status on Facebook saying, 'My death will be because of a woman'.
The incident took place at the Samtalukdar house in Malirhat area of Pomra union's ward no 3 on Monday, August 3.
Police and local sources said family members found Neerab Emon hanging inside his room and informed the police. Later, Rangunia Model Thana police recovered the body and sent it to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police said Neerab Emon had posted multiple posts on his Facebook account hours before his death. In one post, he wrote, 'People die for various reasons, sometimes for no reason. But my death will be because of a woman, because of her family.'
In another post, he mentioned personal relationships, mental anguish and frustration, and made allegations against several individuals. However, the veracity of these allegations could not be independently verified.
Locals claimed Neerab Emon was involved in Chhatra League politics. Family members said he was preparing to go abroad for employment.
According to police, on July 15, a complaint was filed at Rangunia Model Police Station against Neerab Emon over allegations of harassing a teenage girl. Later, on July 24, the matter was resolved in the presence of both parties. At that time, he signed a written undertaking promising not to harass, follow, mentally torment or publish photos of the girl on social media in the future.
Rangunia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zahir Uddin said preliminary investigation suggests it is a case of suicide. The post-mortem report, the Facebook posts made before his death, and all other aspects of the incident are being thoroughly investigated.
