Man hacked to death for protesting attempted rape of granddaughter

A young man named Al Amin hacked a grandfather to death with a sickle after the family filed a case accusing him of attempting to rape his granddaughter, a third-grade student in Singair of Manikganj, .

The victim, Ali Azgar, 60, was the son of late Abdur Rashid Khan from Raydakshin area. The accused, Al Amin, 38, is the son of late Kalu Pramanik from the same village.

The incident occurred in Raydakshin area of Jaymontop Union at around 7 pm on Tuesday (April 29) .

Family and local sources said Al Amin ha, who then filed a police complaint. d been harassing the girl for a long time. On Monday, he tried to rape her while she was returning from school. The girl escaped and informed her family, who then filed a police complaint.

Ali Azgar’s nephew, Abul Kalam, said police had come to investigate. Enraged by this, Al Amin attacked Ali Azgar with a sickle on Tuesday evening, leaving him in a paddy field. When Ali Azgar’s two sons, Liakat and Sayem, tried to intervene, Al Amin and his associates also beat them.

Ali Azgar was rescued in critical condition and taken first to Singair Upazila Health Complex. He died on the way to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.

Singair Police Station’s acting OC, J.O.M. Taufiq, said, "A case was filed on Tuesday afternoon based on the mother’s complaint about harassment."

He said, "Police were sent after the case was filed but could not find the accused. We are continuing efforts to arrest him."
