A 35-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly over a longstanding feud in the capital’s Gendaria area early Sunday.

The deceased, Ariful Islam Babu, was an employee at a local garage for CNG-run auto-rickshaws. The attack took place around 5:30am beside a building near the Dayaganj rail tracks, according to police and family members.

Critically injured, Babu was initially taken to a local clinic and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at approximately 8:00am, said Inspector Md Farouk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp.

Babu’s wife, Ayesha Akhter, alleged that four to five local men — identified as Robin, Shahin, Masud, and Kader — attacked her husband with machetes. “They struck him on the head, arms, and legs, leaving him severely injured. Before fleeing, they also took his mobile phone,” she said.

The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.

Sub-inspector Md Ripon Islam of Gendaria Police Station said police are aware of the incident and are working to collect more details.

No case had been filed in connection with the incident at the time of filing this report.
