Man hacked to death inside home in Madaripur
Alamgir Hawladar, 55, was hacked to death inside his home in New Madaripur village under Madaripur Sadar upazila following a dispute over establishing dominance. His house was also vandalised and looted during the attack. Police have detained one person in connection with the incident.
According to local and police sources, there had been a long-standing dispute between Moniruzzaman Akhtar Hawladar of New Madaripur village and Hasan Munsi of the same area. On Monday morning, supporters of Hasan Munsi attacked the home of Alamgir Hawladar, a cousin and supporter of Moniruzzaman.
Witnesses said Alamgir Hawladar was hacked indiscriminately and killed in the attack. One of his hands was severed during the assault. The attackers also vandalised and looted the house.
The army and police arrived at the scene after being informed and brought the situation under control.
Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said clashes between the two groups over establishing dominance occur frequently. Attacks, vandalism and looting have occurred before. Tension is prevailing in the area following Alamgir Hawladar's death, so additional police have been deployed.
Police said Masud Bepari has been taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in the incident. The investigation is ongoing and legal action will be taken.
