Man held for attempting to rape eight-year-old in Rangpur

A 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape an eight-year-old child in Rangpur.

The accused has been identified as Abdul Hakim, son of late Suja Mia of Ranchandi Mandalpara village under Hajirhat police station.

Hajirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shariful Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday evening, May 27.

According to the OC, the accused lured the child with the promise of snacks and took her to a banana garden next to her home, where he attempted to rape her. A young man from the village witnessed the incident and raised an alarm, gathering locals. Residents rescued the child and detained Abdul Hakim before informing police.

The accused has been taken to the police station, and legal action will be taken to ensure the victim's family receives swift justice.
