Man held for attempting to rape fourth-grader in Khulna

Police have arrested Saiful Molla, 45, in Koyra upazila, Khulna, on charges of attempting to rape a Class IV student after luring her to his home on the pretext of giving her food. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon, July 4.

According to police and local sources, the child was playing in front of Saiful Molla's house when it started raining. She took shelter on the veranda, and Saiful called her inside, offering to give her food, and attempted to sexually assault her.

Hearing the child's screams, her mother rushed to the spot and rescued her daughter. She hit the accused on the head with a wooden stool, injuring him. Police arrived at the scene and detained him.

The victim's mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Sunday, July 5, and the accused was sent to jail through the court.

Koyra Police Station Officer-in-Charge Hasanuzzaman said the accused has been sent to court and later to jail based on the case filed by the victim's family. An investigation is ongoing.
