Man held for 'raping' 13 Mirpur girls entrapping them

Police have arrested a young man named Rashedul Islam Rabbi, 30, on charges of trapping women and raping them. Law enforcement agencies said Rabbi used to lure young women into traps and rape them.

Police said Rashedul primarily targeted girls from the Mirpur area, took them to his hideout in the Dania area of Jatrabari, where he sexually assaulted them and recorded videos. Rabbi committed 13 such incidents over the past two months.

All the victims are aged between 18 and 20 years.

DC of DMP's Wari Division, Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami, disclosed the information at a press conference organised at the DMP Media Centre on Wednesday afternoon, April 15.

Rashedul was recently arrested from the Dania area of Jatrabari, the DC said. His permanent address is in Puran Kamargaon area of Munshiganj. His father's name is Shahjahan Mallik.

Ahsan Uddin Sami said the arrested Rabbi created a fake ID on Facebook and, by speaking in a female voice, gained control of a victim's mobile phone. Using the logged-in social media accounts and SIM card from that phone, he then targeted female students from schools and colleges on the victim's friend list. After building close friendships by speaking in a female voice, he would lure victims to an under-construction building at Goalabari Mor in Jatrabari on the pretext of giving them gifts.

There, he would forcibly rape them and record the acts on his mobile phone. Rabbi would then extort money regularly by threatening to spread the videos on social media.

Rashedul was initially arrested based on a complaint related to pornography. At that time, five mobile phones belonging to five victims were recovered from him. Later, during investigation, police uncovered information about 10 additional complaints.
