A man was arrested on charge of attempting to kill a dog with a sharp weapon in Bogura.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ibrahim Ali confirmed the information, stating Md Swapan, 45, was arrested from the Bakshibazar area in the early hours of today (30 June).

A Burmese knife was also recovered from his possession, said police.

The rescuer of the dog, Md Emran Hossain, convener of the Bogura branch of the Bangladesh Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) filed the case yesterday (29 June) accusing Swapan.

According to the case statement, Emran received information that a dog had been found critically injured in the Kanchhgarhi area.

With the assistance of two local residents, he rescued the animal and took it to a veterinary treatment centre, where a joint medical team from the upazila and district livestock departments provided treatment.

After conducting inquiries, evidence was found allegedly linking Swapan to the incident and filed the case, the OC said.
