Man kills 30 weavers in Chattogram for eating paddy

A man has reportedly killed 25 to 30 weavers and destroyed 22 nests in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram for eating paddy.

The incident took place in the Bhubaneswari Matri Mandir area of ​​Popadia Ishwar Bhatta Bazar in the upazila.

Upon receiving the news, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehedi Hasan Faruk visited the spot on Wednesday (April 15). Later, the accused, Bacha Mia, was sentenced to imprisonment and fined through a mobile court.

In this regard, UNO Mehedi Hasan Faruk said, "After receiving the news of the destruction of the nests of the indigenous bird, I quickly went to the spot and found out that the birds had eaten paddy from the cropland of the accused."

"He destroyed 22 bird nests. We saw that 25 to 30 small bird chicks were killed. Bacha Mia, who was responsible for this incident, has confessed to his crime. He has been sentenced to 7 days of imprisonment and a fine of Tk20,000 under Section 38 of the Wildlife Conservation Act 12."

Boalkhali Police Station OC Mahfuzur Rahman said that the convicted person has been sent to jail.
