Police have recovered the body of a 60-year-old man nearly 50 days after he went missing, buried about 8 to 10 feet beneath the floor of a neighbour's kitchen in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj.

The body of Awlad Hossain, a resident of Chainpara village under Jainsar Union, was recovered during a late-night operation on Tuesday (June 30) from the home of a local resident identified as Bayra Khayer Bepari.

According to family members, Awlad had been missing since May 9. After extensive but unsuccessful searches, his brother, Abdul Awal Sheikh, filed a missing person case with Sirajdikhan Police Station on May 23. Relatives also circulated appeals on social media in an effort to trace him, but no breakthrough came until police launched a targeted operation based on fresh investigative leads.

Investigators excavated the kitchen floor of the suspect's house and recovered the body buried deep beneath the concrete surface.

Police said preliminary findings suggest the killing may have been linked to property disputes, money and gold ornaments. Officers also noted that Awlad had been married twice and had longstanding family disagreements over inheritance, which investigators believe could be connected to the murder.

Four suspects have been detained in connection with the case. They have been identified as Manik Bepari, 40, Bin Amin, 36, Ripon, 30,—all residents of Chainpara village—and Saiful Islam, 38, from Rajendrapur in Rangpur district.

Md Alauddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sirajdikhan Police Station, said, "Investigators suspect the murder was motivated by financial and property-related disputes, although the exact motive is yet to be established."

"We have detained four suspects and the investigation is progressing. We expect to uncover the full circumstances behind the murder very soon," the OC added.
