Man, wife die from burn injuries in gas leakage fire

A tragic gas explosion resulting from a leak in a residential gas line has claimed the lives of a husband and wife in the Mirer Bazar area of Tongi. The couple had been undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

The deceased were identified as Hafiza Akter (20) and her husband Mohammad Ripon (25). Hafiza succumbed to her injuries around 11:30 PM on Wednesday (August 6), while Ripon passed away in the early hours of Thursday (August 7) at approximately 4:30 AM, both in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the institute, confirmed the deaths. He stated that the couple, along with their four-month-old son Raihan, had been brought to the emergency unit on Sunday morning with severe burn injuries. Raihan was declared dead shortly after arrival.

According to Dr. Rahman, Hafiza had sustained burns over 70% of her body, while Ripon suffered burns covering 80%. All three victims of the explosion have now died.

The incident occurred on Sunday (August 3) following a gas leak explosion at the family’s residence in the Mirer Bazar area. Local authorities are investigating the cause of the leak.
