A young man was hacked and beaten to death by miscreants in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla. The deceased was identified as Md. Al-Mamun. The incident occurred around 11:30pm on Friday (July 25) near the Gouripur Bus Station in Daudkandi town.

The deceased, Al-Mamun, was the son of Mosharraf Hossain alias Mukbul Member from Sholakandi village in Titas upazila of Cumilla. According to Daudkandi Model Police Station, Mamun had 23 cases filed against him, including murder, drugs, and extortion, in various police stations including Daudkandi and Titas.

Confirming the matter, Daudkandi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zunaet Chowdhury told the media, “After receiving information, we went to the spot and found his bloodied body. The miscreants ensured his death by hacking him and then fled the scene.”

“Mamun and three women boarded a bus in Dhaka at night to go to Cox’s Bazar. When the bus stopped at Gouripur, Mamun got off to buy water. At that moment, 3-4 attackers with sharp weapons attacked him. He died on the spot,” the OC added.

He added that further details will be known after investigation.

According to the local residents, Mamun used to control drug and extortion activities in the Gouripur area. That could be the reason behind the killing.

According to police sources, earlier on February 24, Mamun was arrested at a joint police-army checkpoint in Gouripur. At that time, 180 yaba pills and 30 liters of homemade liquor were seized from him. He was later sent to jail and then released on bail.
