Man’s floating body recovered from Dhanmondi lake

Police recovered the floating body of an elderly man from Dhanmondi Lake in Dhaka on Tuesday morning (September 22).

The deceased was identified as Javed Ahmed, 51.

Police said locals spotted the body floating near Road 10 around 6:40am and alerted them. Officers recovered the body and identified him through a national identity card found with him.

Javed’s wife, Shahana Jabin Khan, later arrived at the scene and identified the body. She told police that the family lives in a residential area under Vatara Police Station.

According to the family, Javed had been unemployed for a long time and was facing financial difficulties. However, it was not immediately clear how he ended up in the lake or how he died.

Dhanmondi Police Station OC Mohammad Imdadul Islam said the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy after the necessary legal procedures.

Police said the cause of death will be established after receiving the autopsy report. An investigation is underway.
