Martyr’s mother is mother of nation, bullying unacceptable: Jamaat Ameer
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that a martyr’s mother is the mother of the nation, stressing that there is no question of ignoring or sidelining her under any circumstances.
He made the remarks while addressing a public election rally at Cumilla Town Hall ground as the chief guest on Friday (January 30).
He criticised what he described as unwarranted criticism and “bullying” by some quarters on social media over a humanitarian incident.
Earlier in the morning, at a Jamaat-e-Islami election rally held at Feni Government Pilot High School ground, separate seating arrangements were made for families of the July movement martyrs and the injured. After the rally, Dr. Rahman went to inquire about their well-being. At that time, the mother of one martyr became emotional and embraced him, prompting an emotional response from other martyr families and party leaders present.
In his speech at the Feni rally, the Jamaat Ameer said the party seeks to end the culture of hereditary politics, where “the son of a king becomes a king and the son of a minister becomes a minister.”
He also said past political practices had pushed the country towards fascism, authoritarianism and corruption, adding that changing this trajectory remains Jamaat-e-Islami’s objective.
Referring to incidents of political violence across the country, Dr. Rahman urged all to refrain from violence and to show due respect to the martyrs of the July movement. He further emphasised the need to ensure dignity and respect for women in society.
