Masked men attack 3 RU students, calling them 'Chhatra League'
A group of masked men attacked three students of Rajshahi University at a restaurant adjacent to the Kajla Gate, calling them 'Chhatra League'.
The incident took place in the Kajla canteen at 11pm on Wednesday (November 19).
The three injured students are--Al Farabi of the Finance Department of the 2021-21 academic year, Tahmid Ahmed Bakhshi of the same department of the 2023-24 academic year, and Minhaj Rahman of the Drama Department of the 2023-24 academic year.
Two of them have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while one to the university's medical center.
Locals said that Farabi and some students were taking food at the Kajla canteen around 11pm. At that time, a group of 10-15 men with black cloths covering their faces and wearing helmets entered the restaurant. They started searching for someone by showing the students their pictures and after a while they started beating them indiscriminately. The attackers were seen carrying various local weapons including hammers, rods, and ramdas.
University Proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman said that the miscreants with cloths tied over their faces and wearing helmets attacked some students. They also tried to abduct two students. Police action at that time was not satisfactory.
Motihar Police Station OC Abdul Malek said that the police have launched a drive regarding the incident. Details will be made public later.
Meanwhile, after this incident, classmates of the injured students protested by blocking the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway at Kajla Gate at midnight demanding punishment of the culprits.
