Writer and political analyst Farhad Mazhar stated that the public uprising failed due to a lack of understanding of the relationship between law and politics.

He made this remark on Friday (November 1) during a meeting titled "Corruption and the President or Reform" organized by the Center for Democracy and Peace Studies at the Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Friday.

Farhad Mazhar said, "This failure was necessary for us to realize our ignorance and unconscious state. It will lead us in the wrong direction. We keep calling for reform, but how can you reform something when you haven't even established the foundation?"

He further said, “We talk about democracy while ignoring the people. Even after a mass uprising, we ignore the people, which is a strange phenomenon. So many people became martyrs, so many were disabled, yet we continued to ignore the people. This is not right."

The political analyst argued that the term 'constitution' itself is inaccurate, describing it as a tool used by colonial powers. They create laws to rule those they govern, which is what we call a constitution. In true democracy, there shouldn’t be a distinction between the governed and the governors. In democracy, the people are their own rulers.

"In 1972, those who were elected to create Pakistan's constitution came back and drafted the constitution for an independent Bangladesh. They enacted what they wanted for governance, adding socialism, secularism. Their ideology is what we call fascism. They imposed their ideology on us, governing us under this for so many years. The Awami League tried to show that they embodied the spirit of the Liberation War, yet the spirit of the Liberation War was about equality, human dignity, and justice," he added.
