Matiur, his wife arrested over goat scandal
Matiur Rahman, a former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member; and his wife, Laila Kaniz Lucky, a former Upazila Chairman; have been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) police for their involvement in the Goat scandal.
A DB police team arrested them on Tuesday night (January 14) from an area under Vatara police station in the capital. However, no information has been given about the specific case they were arrested for.
DB Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter.
The couple has several cases against them. Recently, on January 6, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed three cases against them.
During the last Eid-ul-Azha, a young man named Mushfiqur Rahman Iffat became famous for spending Tk15 lakh to buy a goat. It was later revealed that his father, Matiur Rahman, is a former NBR member and the president of the Customs, Excise, and VAT Appellate Tribunal. This started talks about Matiur Rahman and his family's wealth.
