MATS students take position in Shahbagh, place 4-point demands
MATS (Medical Assistant Training School) students have taken position in Shahbagh in the capital. Hundreds of students took position on the road around 11 am on Sunday demanding four points, including recruitment to vacant posts. At that time, traffic on the road from TSC to Shahbagh was stopped.
The students took position on the road in front of the museum around 11:15 am. The students said they are protesting against the lack of visible steps to fulfill their demands even after the Health Ministry's promise of seven working days has ended.
In a press release on Sunday, the General MATS Students' Unity Council outlined their demands. Their demands are - the recruitment of vacant posts in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, which has been stalled for more than 12 years, should be expedited, the post of Deputy Assistant Medical Officer should be created to provide treatment in community clinics, the name of the institution should be changed, the name of the course should be changed, the errors and inconsistencies in the 2021 course curriculum should be resolved, a new intern logbook should be created, the name of the draft law on higher education in clinical subjects recognized by BM&DC and the proposed Allied Health Professional Board should be changed, and all the proposed sections should be implemented with amendments.
Earlier, on January 22, MATS students blocked Shahbagh with the same demand.
