Shafiullah, a prominent leader of Maulana Saad's faction, has been arrested in connection with the fatalities during the clashes at the World Ijtema ground in Tongi. He was arrested at around 9:15pm on Saturday night (January 4) from the Stadium Road area in Palong, Shariatpur. Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi West Police Station, Iskandar Habibur Rahman, said, "Shafiullah is the 9th accused in the Tablighi Sathi murder case. The police in Tongi West, working with the local police of Shariatpur Sadar, arrested him, and he was brought to Tongi West Police Station later that night. Habibullah Raihan, the media coordinator of the Tablighi Jamaat Bangladesh Shura Nizam, also confirmed the arrest.

টঙ্গীর বিশ্ব ইজতেমা মাঠে সংঘর্ষে হতাহতের মামলায় মাওলানা সাদ কান্ধলভী অনুসারী আরেক শীর্ষস্থানীয় নেতা শফিউল্লাহকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। তাবলিগ জামাত বাংলাদেশের শুরা নিজামের মিডিয়া সমন্বয়কারী হাবিবুল্লাহ রায়হান জানান, শনিবার (৪ জানুয়ারি) রাত সোয়া নয়টার দিকে শরীয়তপুরের পালং স্টেডিয়াম রোড এলাকা থেকে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। টঙ্গী পশ্চিম থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা (ওসি) ইস্কান্দার হাবিবুর রহমান জানান, শফিউল্লাহ তাবলিগ সাথী হত্যা মামলার ৯ নম্বর আসামি। শরীয়তপুর সদর থানা পুলিশ তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করে রাতেই টঙ্গী পশ্চিম থানায় নিয়ে আসে।
