May no family ever have a son like me: Youth writes in note before suicide
A young man named Abu Kalam, 18, has died by suicide by hanging himself with a gamchha in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram. A note was found beside his body.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 21, at Ganakpara village adjacent to Suizgat Bazar in Daldalia union of the upazila. The deceased, Abu Kalam, was the only son of Mohammad Golzar Ali of that area.
According to family sources, Abu Kalam went to sleep in his room as usual at night. Around 3 am, his mother went to call him for sehri. When no response came despite repeated calls, family members grew suspicious. Later, with the help of locals, they broke open the door and found Kalam hanging with a gamchha around his neck. He was brought down immediately but had already died.
The young man had been suffering from unemployment and mental stress for a long time. Before his death, he left an emotional note for his family. In the note, he wrote: "Dear family, I am very fortunate to have a family like you. But I feel you are not at all happy to have a son like me, because I am unemployed. All my life I have only depended on you, never been able to do anything for you. Please forgive me all. Pray for me. And I pray that no family ever has to suffer a son like me."
Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sahed Ibn Siddiq said police reached the spot upon receiving information, recovered the body and sent it to Kurigram Morgue for autopsy. An unnatural death case has been filed. The actual cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the post-mortem report.
