MBSTU registrar suspended amid student protests
Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) has suspended its registrar, Mohd Touhidul Islam, following student protests over alleged administrative misconduct.
Professor Sajjad Wahid of the ICT Department has been appointed acting registrar, according to official university notifications.
The protests began on September 23 when students locked the registrar’s office, demanding accountability from Touhidul and other staff members who opposed the student-led July–August mass uprising.
Students issued two main demands: the suspension of the registrar and the locking of his office until a trial committee is formed, and the publication of a roadmap for establishing the university’s central students’ union (Mucsu) by September 24.
An emergency meeting held yesterday, attended by the dean, department chairs, provost, and office heads, decided to suspend the registrar. A committee has also been formed to investigate the allegations.
