Measles infected exceed five thousand in Faridpur, 21 deaths
The number of people infected with measles in Faridpur has crossed 5,000. From January 1 to August 29 this year a total of 5,059 people have been detected with measles in the district. During this period 21 people have died after being infected with this disease. Although measles has been detected in 18 people newly in the last 24 hours, no death has occurred.
These pieces of information have been given in the latest report of the health department of the district till 8am on Saturday (August 29). It is seen in this that the infection of measles in the district is still continuing. Among the newly detected patients there are 14 of Faridpur district and four of various neighbouring districts.
Hospital sources said 18 new measles patients have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital in the last 24 hours. Adding them with the previous patients a total of 79 are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. In the same period 20 people have been discharged from the hospital after recovery.
No new measles patient has been admitted to Faridpur General Hospital in the last one day. However 19 previously admitted are still undergoing treatment. Combining the two hospitals a total of 98 measles patients are currently taking treatment in the district.
In the upazila-based calculation the highest number of patients has been detected in Alfadanga, 28. After that measles has been detected in the bodies of 25 in Boalmari, 23 in Saltha, 17 in Charbhadrasan, 14 in Sadarpur, 12 in Bhanga, 6 in Madhukhali, 5 in Faridpur Sadar and 2 in Nagarkanda.
Civil Surgeon of Faridpur Dr Mahmudul Hasan has informed that the health department is in the highest alert position to control the infection of measles. He said arrangements for necessary beds and medicines have been kept in the hospitals to provide quick treatment to the infected. Field-level health workers are working to prevent the outbreak. He called on the guardians to become aware for the prevention of measles along with giving the preventive vaccine to the children on time.
