Measles vaccination begins in five Rajshahi districts

A special measles vaccination campaign for children has begun in five districts of Rajshahi division, prioritising high-transmission areas.

District Administrator Kazi Shahidul Islam inaugurated the programme by releasing balloons and pigeons at the Matikata Community Clinic in Godagari upazila at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 5.

The district administrator said the three-week special vaccination campaign aims to cover 56,600 children. On the first day, 5,600 children are planned to be vaccinated across 27 centres.

Civil Surgeon Dr S I M Rajiul Karim said all children aged five to 59 months are being brought under the campaign. Thousands of children are being vaccinated in Godagari upazila and municipality on the first day. Children who received the vaccine at least 28 days ago will also be revaccinated.

The vaccination drive will run uninterrupted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily for the next three weeks, health officials said.
