Mega projects mean mega corruption, so BNP won’t go for mega projects: Tarique Rahman
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has announced that no new mega projects will be taken up if the party comes to power. According to him, “mega projects mean mega corruption.” Therefore, the state’s money will be spent on the education, health, human rights and improvement of the standard of living of the people.
He made this statement while virtually joining the BNP’s ‘Plan for Nation Building’ event organized at the Krishibid Institution Auditorium in Dhaka’s Farmgate on Wednesday (December 10) afternoon from London. Leaders of the Jubo Dal and Krishak Dal were present at the event.
Tarique Rahman said that although many facilities, including IT parks, were built during the dictatorial government, most of them could not fulfill their real purpose. He said:“There is no plan for any new IT parks. The existing facilities will be renovated and opportunities will be given to young innovators.”
The party is holding a series of workshops on how it will work in eight sectors including education, health, sports, family card, farmer card, and employment if it comes to power, which will continue until December 13. Tarique Rahman claimed that if even 40 percent of their plan is implemented, there will be big changes in the country.
Regarding the upcoming elections, he said: "To save the country, we have to win. There is no alternative to this - no compromise." He called on the leaders and activists to take to the field now.
In his speech on the occasion of Human Rights Day, he mentioned that people from different professions have been victims of human rights violations under authoritarian rule and BNP has been the most persecuted. He promised that if it comes to power, people with different opinions will be ensured safe expression of their opinions. He said, "No one will have to give their life like Abrar Fahad while expressing their opinions."
The programme was presided over by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and moderated by Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel.
