Metro rail halted amid full work stoppage, passengers suffer
Metro rail services on all lines have been suspended since this morning due to a full work stoppage called by a section of DMTCL’s regular officers and employees. As per the schedule, trains were supposed to depart Uttara at 3pm and Motijheel at 3:20pm, but no trains left any station.
Collapsible gates at several station entrances were found locked, forcing passengers to return after arriving at stations. Many faced significant inconvenience.
Citing breach of promises regarding the formulation of service rules, a section of DMTCL employees announced a full work stoppage from 7am today. Although DMTCL said on Thursday night that metro rail services would run on Friday as usual, the protesting employees did not adhere to that decision.
DMTCL’s public relations officer Zahidul Islam said the process of meeting the protesters’ demands is under way. Despite assurances from the authorities, the suspension of passenger services has prompted the government to consider the matter seriously.
