Metro rail services resume on all routes after 23 hrs
Metro rail operations have resumed on all routes after a suspension of around 23 and a half hours, following the fall of a bearing pad from a metro pillar near the Farmgate area. Services returned to normal shortly after 11am on Monday.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the agency responsible for constructing and operating the metro rail in Dhaka, stated that trains were test-run twice between Agargaon and Shahbagh in the morning, with no issues detected. Consequently, full metro services resumed after 11am.
Earlier on Monday morning, DMTCL announced on its official Facebook page: “For the information of valued metro passengers, please be advised that metro rail services from Uttara North to Motijheel will resume uninterruptedly from 11am today. The metro rail authorities sincerely apologise for the temporary inconvenience.”
The previous day, Sunday at around 12:15pm, a pedestrian was killed when a bearing pad from the metro rail structure fell near Farmgate in the capital. Following the incident, metro services were suspended. Operations later resumed partially—from Diabari to Agargaon after 3pm, and from Motijheel to Shahbagh at around 7:15pm, nearly six and three-quarter hours later. However, the section between Motijheel and Agargaon remained closed until this morning for repair works.
