Metro rail stations conducts fire safety and evacuation exercises
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), in partnership with the Fire Service and Civil Defense, conducted emergency firefighting and rescue drills at Uttara Center and Bijoy Sarani Metro Rail stations on Wednesday.
The morning session was held at Uttara Center, followed by an afternoon drill at Bijoy Sarani. The exercises involved the use of water tenders, pump-carrying tenders, scissor lifts, ambulances, and snorkel vehicles.
The drill aimed to prepare personnel on protecting passengers, extinguishing fires, evacuating commuters safely, and providing first aid before hospital transfer in case of fire emergencies at metro stations.
Alongside Fire Service and Civil Defense teams, metro security staff and local volunteers took part. The Metropolitan Police and Traffic Police managed traffic and security throughout the drills.
After the exercise, DMTCL Director (Administration) A.K.M. Khairul Alam addressed the participants. Md. Saleh Uddin, Deputy Director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Dhaka Division, briefed the media and answered questions.
The drill is part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness and readiness among metro authorities and passengers for real emergencies.
The drills were overseen by Kazi Najmuzzaman, Assistant Director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, Dhaka. The event was hosted by Media Cell Officer Md. Shahjahan Shikdar and Senior Station Officer A.K.M. Raihanul Ashraf. Several officials from DMTCL and the Fire Service and Civil Defense attended.
