A passenger-carrying microbus caught fire while in motion in the capital's Farmgate area on Wednesday morning (May 6).

However, no casualties or major damage were reported in the incident, officials said.

The fire broke out around 10:00am, confirmed Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kashainyo Marma.

Police said the vehicle suddenly emitted a loud sound while moving, after which flames erupted. Sensing danger, passengers quickly exited the vehicle, preventing any injuries.

Initial suspicion points to a possible mechanical failure as the cause of the fire, although authorities said an investigation is underway.

The OC also clarified that there was no gas cylinder explosion involved.

He added that the situation could have been far more severe if such an explosion had occurred.

Although the microbus was partially damaged by fire, it was promptly removed from the road to ensure smooth traffic flow in the busy area.

Police said the vehicle will be handed over to its owner after necessary formal procedures.
