A late-night protest demanding a ban on student politics swept through Eden Mohila College on Saturday, as students broke open the main gate, chanted anti-politics slogans, and attempted to burn a banner linked to a student political leader.

The unrest reportedly began after allegations emerged that the phrase “Politics-Free Campus” had been erased from the college gate earlier in the evening. Around 11:00pm, students from several dormitories, including Hazrat Rabeya Basri Hall, gathered and launched demonstrations inside the campus.

Protesters shouted slogans against student politics before forcing open the main gate and marching outside. They later tore down and tried to set fire to a banner put up by Tayeba Twaha, a presidential aspirant of the Eden College unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

The demonstrators also painted “Completely Politics-Free Eden Campus” on the college gate and demanded an end to all political activities on campus, alleging partisan influence has disrupted the academic environment.

In a Facebook post, Nasir Uddin, central general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, defended student politics as a democratic right and accused “hidden groups” of mobilizing against political activities on campuses.

No statement was immediately issued by the college administration.
