Mild earthquake jolts Sylhet

Sylhet city and surrounding areas experienced a mild earthquake on Sunday, causing brief panic among residents. The tremor, which measured 4.0 on the Richter scale, struck at 12:19pm.

Buildings in several parts of the city shook for a few seconds, prompting many people to rush out of their homes and offices.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Monitoring Center reported that the earthquake originated in Chhatak Upazila of Sunamganj District. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.

Shah Mohammad Sajeeb Hossain, Assistant Meteorologist at the Sylhet Meteorological Office, confirmed the incident to the media.

Earthquake experts said a 4.0-magnitude tremor is considered mild. While it rarely causes significant damage, it can trigger panic and minor harm to weak or vulnerable structures.
