Mild earthquake shakes Thakurgaon

A mild earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was felt 33 kilometres east of Thakurgaon in northern Bangladesh.

The tremor was recorded at 8:34am on Sunday, January 25. Volcano Discovery, a website that tracks earthquakes and volcanic activity, said the depth of the quake could not be determined immediately, though it was initially believed to be shallow. According to its data, most people did not feel the tremor.

However, several residents of Thakurgaon reported on Facebook that they felt the shaking, with some describing it as relatively strong.

Earlier, an earthquake was felt in Sylhet and surrounding areas in the early hours of January 5. The tremor was reported around 4:47am and lasted for a few seconds, prompting many people to share their experiences on social media.

The quake was felt in several areas of the city, including Zindabazar, Upashahar, Ambarkhana, Tilagor and Shahparan police station areas, as well as in South Surma, Jaintapur and Companiganj upazilas.
