Milestone jet crash: 2 more students released from hospital

Two students injured in the Milestone School and College air force jet crash on July 21 have been discharged from the hospital after two months of treatment.

Niloy, 13, a sixth grader, and Rupi Barua, 10, a fifth grader, were released from the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at Sunday noon and have returned home, said Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute.

Niloy sustained burns over 25 percent of his body, while Rupi suffered burns over 20 percent, Dr. Rahman added.

With their release, 28 of the students injured in the crash have now returned home following recovery. Eight others remain under treatment at the hospital, while 20 patients succumbed to their injuries, according to the institute.

Overall, health ministry data indicate that at least 35 people, mostly students, were killed in the tragic air force jet crash.
