Milestone student Mahiya dies from burn injuries, death toll rises to 34 in plane crash

Another victim of the fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Diabari, Uttara, has died while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. The deceased, 15-year-old Mahiya, was an eighth-grade student at Milestone School.

With her death, the official death toll from the incident has risen to 34. Most of the deceased are young students from the institution.

Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the Burn Institute, confirmed that Mahiya had sustained burns over 50% of her body. So far, 13 patients admitted to the institute have died from their injuries.

Earlier in the day, around 1:30 p.m., Mahtab Uddin Bhuiyan (13), a seventh-grade student, died in the institute’s ICU. He had suffered burns to 85% of his body.

As of 3:30 p.m. Thursday (24 July), the interim government officially confirmed the deaths of 30 individuals, while at least 55 others remain hospitalized with injuries.

According to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, 43 people are currently being treated at the Burn Institute, with 12 deaths confirmed there. At the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka, 11 people are receiving treatment, while 15 deaths have been reported. One patient is admitted to Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital. Another has died at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. One unidentified person died at Lubana General Hospital and Cardiac Center, and another has died at United Hospital.
