Minister clarifies confusion over Zaima Rahman's reported Chelsea football stint
Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque has clarified his position regarding misinformation circulating on social media about Zaima Rahman playing for Chelsea's youth team.
He said that while studying in London, Zaima Rahman regularly played football at the school level. From that experience, he had heard from Tarique Rahman that there was a possibility for Zaima to get an opportunity as a goalkeeper in Chelsea's youth team.
However, the state minister said that Zaima's parents, Tarique Rahman and Dr Zubaida Rahman, encouraged their daughter to prioritise her studies alongside sports. Therefore, despite the opportunity, she ultimately focused on academics.
Aminul Haque further shared that during a cricket match at Mirpur, he had a conversation with Zaima on this matter. At that time, Zaima jokingly said, "Uncle, I used to be a goalkeeper like you in school." According to the state minister, her height gave her a natural advantage in goalkeeping.
He concluded that while sports alongside education is important in Europe, Zaima Rahman chose to prioritise her studies as per her family's decision. He clarified the matter as the information was being spread incorrectly on social media.
