A nine-year-old boy died under mysterious circumstances Sunday morning at an orphanage in the Gangni municipal area of Meherpur.

The deceased, Hassan Ali, was found unresponsive inside his dormitory room, bearing visible injuries that have prompted a formal police investigation.

Hassan, the son of Biplob Hossain from Ajan village, had been residing at the orphanage for his education following the death of his mother. According to Mizanur Rahman, the superintendent of the facility, the incident occurred shortly after breakfast. While other students were occupied with morning tasks, Hassan remained in his room. Two children later returned to find him lying on the floor with bloodstains near his mouth.

Despite an immediate attempt to seek medical assistance, doctors at the Gangni Upazila Health Complex declared the boy dead upon arrival.

Dr. Mahabubur Rahman, the doctor on duty, confirmed that the body exhibited clear signs of trauma around the neck, raising questions about the circumstances of the death. The superintendent alleged that the child suffered from some level of mental disability, though the cause of the fatal injury remains under investigation.

Gangni Police have inspected both the orphanage and the medical facility. Officer-in-Charge Muhaddid Morshed Chowdhury stated that the body has been transferred to the Meherpur General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the definitive cause of death. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
